This weekend my hubby and I went away with a close friend, her hubby and four other couples to celebrate her 40th birthday at a condo they had rented a couple of hours north of here. They had been planning this weekend for months and we had a sitter all lined up for two nights and were really looking forward to it. Of course, as life often goes, practically everything we had going on the month of October happened yesterday! We had to postpone our arrival after an important meeting at the church regarding Nathan's First Communion. Shortly after that was Nathan's first hockey "game" so once that was over we hit the road. I will be the first to say that I was totally annoyed that we had so much going on yesterday and had to miss Friday night with our friends! We NEVER get to go away and had been so looking forward to it.
Both of my sons started hockey school five weeks ago. It consists of mostly drills and skills stuff. It's for 5-7 year olds who have never played before and are getting into hockey later than most. Colin (my 5 year old) had his school yesterday also and is shaping up to be a good little backwards skater! I am so proud of him! He has come soooooooo far! And he loves the game so much.
Nathan also had school (7:30 a.m.-yuck!!) and then had a "game" at 11:30. Seems they will have one of these every four weeks. So we went to that yesterday. It's basically all the kids in his age group divided into two teams and take turns in 3-4 minute shifts trying to score on an empty net. Like I said, he's been at the school for 5 weeks and before that we had him in two sets of lessons and one short set so he wasn't a super strong skater when he started. Can I just tell you that Nathan did fantastic in his first "game" and out of the 7 goals that his team scored, Nathan scored (wait for it........) 6 of them!!!! Holy carp! I just about burst with pride when he scored his first goal on his first shift but then he just kept getting the puck, shooting it down the ice, chasing it down and scoring! I swear, Don and I were in shock and by his fourth goal we were laughing so hard because we were astounded with what we were seeing. I swear if he never scores another goal in his entire life, yesterday will have been enough! This was his first chance to really skate with his equipment and yesterday was the first time he had ever even used a puck on the ice! Everytime it seemed he had run out of gas, he's pick up speed and chase the puck down. More than the goals scored, we were proud of what a hard little worker he was! We were just hoping that he would be able to stay on his own two feet for most of the game! Seriously.
Fortunately, my parents came to the game (they picked up the kids so that we could go straight away to meet our friends) so they were able to see it too. I swear, people must have thought the four of us were nuts, we were killing ourselves laughing and cheering for him (and of course, the other players too). I wish there had been a hidden camera so I could have seen the look on our faces as he kept scoring. Priceless, I'm sure.
So, the bottom line is that I am so very glad we were home on Saturday and able to go to that game! My parents took them both to McDonalds for lunch and God love him, the poor little guy puked at McDonalds with all the excitement of his goals :) What a day!
Here's some pics of them from yesterday.

So, needless to say, I was so busy this weekend I didn't have a chance to stamp. Hopefully, I'll find some time to show my sets some love in the next few days. Thanks so much for stopping by and indulging a proud mom if you've read to the end of this :)
